Dagstuhl Publishing – Highlights of 2025

Categories:
In 2025, Dagstuhl Publishing combined continued expansion in its publications with substantial work on infrastructure, accessibility, workflows, and sustainability, further strengthening its role as an open-access publisher for computer science.

Publication Output

Dagstuhl Publishing recorded increased output across its key series in 2025:

Additional publications included:

Conferences and Partnerships

LIPIcs publishing agreements were extended in 2025 with long-standing conferences including DNA, IPEC, OPODIS, CSL, ICALP, MFCS, FSCD, and CP. New partnerships were confirmed for WADS (starting in 2025) and WG (from 2026), along with future agreements for IJCAR (from 2028), CADE, TABLEAUX, and FroCoS (all from 2027). Late in 2025, an agreement was reached with LICS to publish their 2026 proceedings.

LIPIcs: Editorial Developments

The LIPIcs Editorial Board saw scheduled changes in 2025: the terms of Luca Aceto, Anca Muscholl, Philip Rogaway, and Raimund Seidel ended, while Sławomir Lasota, Alexandra Silva, and Holger Hermanns joined the board. In October 2025, Daniel Král’ succeeded Meena Mahajan as Chair of the Editorial Board, see https://www.dagstuhl.de/en/publishing/news/2025/changes-in-the-lipics-editorial-board and https://www.dagstuhl.de/en/publishing/news/2025/new-chair-of-the-lipics-editorial-board .

FAIR Workflows and Supplementary Materials

As part of the FAIRCORE4EOSC, NFDI4DataScience, and NFDIxCS projects, Dagstuhl Publishing enhanced DSUB and DROPS workflows to simplify submission, archiving, and citation of supplementary materials, particularly research software. In 2025, 155 sets of supplementary material were published (2024: 94), see https://www.dagstuhl.de/en/publishing/news/2025/citable-discoverable-preserved-connecting-software-with-publications and https://drops.dagstuhl.de/entities/collection/supplementary-materials .

HTML Publications and Accessibility

A major technical focus in 2025 was the systematic introduction of HTML versions of publications alongside PDFs. This required extensive work on automated conversion pipelines, metadata handling, layout consistency, internal linking, and accessibility features.

The first HTML articles went online during the year, and by the end of 2025 around 1,500 articles were available in HTML format, significantly improving accessibility, usability across devices, and machine readability, see https://www.dagstuhl.de/en/publishing/news/2025/html-and-accessibility-at-dagstuhl-publishing and https://drops.dagstuhl.de/search?term=*&type=Document/HTML .

Long-Term Preservation

Dagstuhl Publishing strengthened its long-term archiving framework in 2025. All articles are archived in PDF/A format and automatically deposited with the German National Library (DNB), ensuring reliable long-term availability, see https://www.dagstuhl.de/en/publishing/news/2025/long-term-preservation-at-dagstuhl-publishing .

Statement on the Use of Generative AI

At the end of 2025, Dagstuhl Publishing released a Statement on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) clarifying principles for responsible use of such tools in scholarly publishing, including transparency, human accountability, and restrictions on use in peer review, see https://www.dagstuhl.de/en/institute/news/2026/dagstuhl-publishing-releases-statement-on-the-use-of-generative-ai and https://drops.dagstuhl.de/docs/gen-ai .

Misuse of Dagstuhl Publications by a Predatory Publisher

In 2025, Dagstuhl Publishing discovered that a predatory publisher had republished more than 80 Dagstuhl Publishing articles without proper attribution or author consent. Titles and abstracts were altered, while the main texts were copied largely verbatim and presented in a degraded form.

This violated the CC BY license and the rights of the authors. After informing the affected authors and obtaining their consent to act on their behalf, Dagstuhl Publishing took action. We succeeded in having all identified articles withdrawn. As the publisher has not ceased using Dagstuhl Publishing content to fill its portfolio, Dagstuhl Publishing is continuously monitoring for further unauthorized republications.

Summary

Overall, 2025 was a year of growth and targeted development for Dagstuhl Publishing. Increased publication volumes were accompanied by substantial progress in FAIR workflows, accessibility, and preservation, laying strong foundations for the future.
