2012 will see the retirement at 65 of Jan Paredaens (professor of databases at Antwerp University, Belgium), founder of the Belgian School in database theory. Jan has been a founder of the International Conference on Database Theory, was program committee chair of the 1998 ACM Symposium on Principles of Database Theory, and has published more than 100 papers. He also advised and inspired a lot of academic offspring. Many of these people are now active researchers.
The purpose of this event is to meet together with all of Jan's past PhD students, their own PhD students, etc., but only those who are now professors themselves active in database theory research. The goal is to discuss past achievements and future challenges and possibilities for scientific cooperation and research funding.
