GI-Dagstuhl Seminar

The Gesellschaft for Informatik e.V. (GI, German Society for Informatics) sees the support of developing computer science researchers as part of its mission. As main founding associate of Schloss Dagstuhl it can hold special seminars promoting young scientists at and in collaboration with Dagstuhl.

These GI-Dagstuhl Seminars deal with current topics in computer science. They are aimed at undergraduates, postgraduates, and young scientists who have completed their doctorates and who actively want to learn about new developments in computer science. By selecting participants from different fields of research, the seminars aim to promote the dissemination of these new developments at universities.

Proposals for GI-Dagstuhl Seminars are submitted to and approved by the Advisory Board of University Professors of the Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. (GIBU) and funded in part by the Gesellschaft for Informatik e.V. (GI, German Society for Informatics) and by Schloss Dagstuhl. GI-Dagstuhl Seminars are conducted at Schloss Dagstuhl.

Overview

  • Participants: about 25 junior scientists
  • Duration: 5 days
  • Fee: 300€
  • Applying: anytime
  • Scheduling: in 6 to 18 months, by arrangement
  • Approval: GIBU & Scientific Director

In case of questions concerning planning and organization of GI-Dagstuhl Seminars, please contact GIBU-Head Professor Lars Grunske and

Participation

The seminar participants comprise young researchers from throughout the world (students at the undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral level) who have convincingly shown their research skills. Though no preference is given with regard to specific fields of study, an attempt is made to attract participants from a wide variety of academic institutions.

The group of participants is determined by a procedure proposed by the seminar organizers. In the past, an application procedure was often successfully applied, but other procedures are also possible.

Costs and Travel instructions

GI-Dagstuhl Seminars are sponsored by the Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. and Schloss Dagstuhl to foster young academics in informatics. A participant of a 5-day GI-Dagstuhl-Seminar pays 300€ for accomodation and full board.

Travel instructions and information for participants provide useful information about Schloss Dagstuhl as a convention venue.

Format of the Proposal

Applicants are 2-3 established scientists in the area of the seminar topic. An informal application of 1-2 pages is sufficient including:

  • names of the organizers (applicants),
  • title of the GI-Dagstuhl Seminar (max. 80 characters),
  • number of participants and duration,
  • participant selection procedure,
  • a description of the planned seminar content. Ideally, the description of the seminar content should already be accompanied by the authors' consent to publish it on the event webpage under the CC-BY license "Creative Commons Attribution 4.0".

Additional information about the organization (e.g. invitation procedure, time schedule) can be attached.

Submission of Proposal and Organisation

Two to three GI-Dagstuhl Seminars are held every year, bringing together about 25 participants each, including the lecturers, for 5 days at Schloss Dagstuhl. Applications can be submitted at any time. The lead time required depends on the capacity utilization of the center and is generally between 6 to 18 months. Your preferred dates will be given high priority.

If you would like to organize a GI-Dagstuhl Seminar, please contact the GIBU-head Professor Lars Grunske and Andreas Dolzmann (contact person at Schloss Dagstuhl). Dagstuhl's Scientific Director will decide on the application together with the GIBU.
