Motivation

As in previous Dagstuhl seminars about Computational Geometry, the exchange of ideas and information about the latest developments in the fields of computational and combinatorial geometry will be the main purpose if this meeting. In addition, we want to focus on a few topics on individual days of the meeting:

  • Geometric pattern recognition and shape matching
  • Surface and volume modeling; optimal triangulations and meshing

Both of these topics are of importance in connection with computer vision and spatial modeling.

  • Geometric methods in bioinformatics

We would like to explore how and to what extent geometry-based methods can play a role in certain computational problems of biology such as molecular modeling, protein folding, drug design etc.

  • Robust and exact geometric computations

The European workshop on Computational Geometry will be held on March 26-28, 2001, in Berlin, immediately after the Dagstuhl workshop, see http://www.inf.fu-berlin.de/inst/ag-ti/index.en.html; so the participants may consider a joint participation in both workshops.
