Motivation

ASIRF provides overview lectures on advanced topics in Information Retrieval and Information Foraging. Participants profit from a unique learning experience with international experts and can meet other participants working on information search. Invited are MA students, PhD students and practitioners working in the area who want to broaden their knowledge and are interested in recent developments. Also students of neighoring areas are welcome.

The lectures cover many aspects of Information Retrieval with a focus on conecpts, methods and current research issues. Central technical topics like IR Models, Multimedia Retrieval, Efficiency Issues and Evaluation are covered. In addition, ASIRF includes the broader perspective on information search and deals with information behavior and information foraging. These topics beyond classical IR research include Task Based Evaluation, Modelling Interactive, Activity logging, context and user modeling. This inclusion also broadens the scope of the methods covered.

Enjoy the historical surroundings and meet the lecturers and other participants in a relaxed atmosphere. Many professors will stay for the whole week and you can receive informal feedback on your topics.

ASIRF stands in the tradition of the German "Herbstschule IR".
