Based on a recommendation of the German National Science Council, the Leibniz Center for Informatics was founded in 1990 under the name "International Conference and Research Center for Computer Science" following a concept of the 'Gesellschaft für Informatik'. Schloss Dagstuhl is operated by a non-profit organization.
