Aesthetic processing is a fascinating and very complex research topic. Its investigation has a longstanding tradition in Experimental Psychology, Experimental Aesthetics being its second oldest branch. Therefore, the status of the Psychology of Aesthetics is briefly introduced here. Building upon this heritage and drawing on a host of neighboring scientific disciplines, a framework for a strongly interdisciplinary Psychology of Aesthetics is reviewed. It is argued that the topic could well be approached from, at least, seven different perspectives, each with multiple levels of analysis. These vantage points have been called: Mind, Body, Content, Person, Situation Diachronia, and Ipsichronia,. In a strongly, interdisciplinary approach, Neuroaesthetics will explore the dynamically configured neural networks underlying these multifaceted processes. Eventually, this work can generate a unified theory of aesthetic processing.
